Some decent rhythms here! Love the toy squeaking. Primo sound effect lol.

Kick is pretty damn solid. The snare could use a little more snap. It's a bit muffled and could use some more power behind it in the high end. Love the bass. Movin' and groovin' like a maschine :) Ambiance is pretty swell.

Ah, and I do have something to give you over them there Googles. I'm sure you'll be happy to hear it ;)

Choice!

Squeaky squeaky, haha yea i found it while flicking through a bunch of samples, didnt even think about it. i was like thats going in this tune now lol.
after reading this i opened up the project to have a go with the snare but il need to switch it out or layer it more cos raising the highs just kinda washed it out a bit, probably my poor EQ'ing skillz lol

Cheers buddy

Hmm.. certainly unique! The vocals aren't in the same key as the horns, which makes it a bit disorienting. But pretty coolio, gotta say.

YouriX responds:

Yeah i dont have a good ear for vocals. So i simply improvise.

Talented as always :)

Very industrial. Gotta say, it really captures the epic atmosphere extremely well. Perfect loop. I really am enjoying this. Fantastic job.

You get your first 5 from me.

S3C responds:

Nav?!

You're alive?! D:

Geez, I can't remember the last time I've heard your stuff. I think the last song I heard was a 3/4 drum and bass track you did. Still as beast as I remember it, methinks.

Sounds like you're in much of as rut as I am :( Been a while since I've pumped anything out (throw everything on soundcloud than on here, copyrights and what have you).

Anyway! This track... quite pro-sawce. Very jazzy and lots of dynamic variation. Tasteful basslines - warm and soothing on the ears. Think I'd have to agree with Quarl on the vocal, buuuutt.. you know.. hypocrites and such.

Tasty.

Great job!

Nav responds:

Hrmmmm, I have no memory of who you are D: I'm sure it'll come back to me if you fill me in.

While I am in a rut with respect to producing, it's only because I'm barely listening to electronic music these days. I picked up guitar about a year ago and I've been enjoying lots of different sorts of music like country/folk/blues/jazz. So, I'm still trying to keep my musical horizons broad despite my lack of online output...

Thanks for reviewing! :)

Ah. Hmm.

This is... very cool actually. There's plenty of genres in this one little ditty, but I'd wager throwing this into Techno/Trance/Dance category more so than Drum and Bass. It sounds much more dancey/techno-like than your mainstream/underground DnB.

Nevertheless, this is quite cool. Very video-game-ish.

Hmm..

Interesting composition. Very raw, but something indeed special about it. There is potential here.

Your bassline could use a little more variation. Play around with your LFO filtering more so you don't maintain the same wobble speed throughout. Try switching up the texture as well by automating a filter to sweep between different frequencies. Also, layering different basslines can certainly give you some added spice.

The beat is kind of muddled and washed from, in part, the mix and, in part, from your bassline. The kick and snare have to punch through more so they don't stay behind as much. Just enough to make it a little more audible.

Key sounds need to be far more distinguishable. They get lost in the frequencies when your melody and harmony combine. Nevertheless, very catchy. Make for a good hook.

Certainly plenty of room for improvement. Work on your mixing, and I think the rest of your areas will improve along with it. Practice, practice, practice.

Also, Panning is your friend. :)

Best of luck.

Perusing the ol' Newgrounds Drum & Bass to see what's been going on with some artists. Yours being the first I come across.

Very interesting approaches. You've certainly worked quite hard on this. Many subtle nuances to fill out the track. That "Ah" that is panned left helped to spice things up. Ambiance is placed very nicely in the middle. You're missing a bit of the low-ranges to the ambiance to add more of the "rumble" to the track, since the sub-bass lacks some of that warmth and meaty-ness.

Bassline is pretty well constructed, save for another underlying bassline to fit inbetween the sub (low) and the top layer high-fi grind (high). Always think in terms of the frequency spectrum and how much you can fill out. If you can cover the broad ranges: Low, Mid, and High, you'll start noticing that things will start sounding more "full" and more rounded.

Drum kit is also well-constructed, but... you're really missing out on many aspects of it. You've got the kick, you've got the snare, and the hi-hat (and a very quiet one panned far left for effect). It's missing a lot of the brightness of a real drum kit (hear me out here, because in the way I do things, and it's just my opinion, I always think of a real world setting when I compose my tracks), and while you've got a crash coming in every 4 bars, with it coming back on the 1, it does make for a good transition.

But, it doesn't hurt to round it out with a ride panned slightly left, a very low open hat/crash hitting along with the kick, a couple overheads... ya know what I mean? The kit does sound a little dry as well, so you could certainly throw in a reverb and give it some room to ring out.

All nit-picking out of love for the track aside, this is pretty good. You've got things down quite well.

ChasingPresence responds:

Thanks for the well thought out review man! I will definitely use this advice and apply it to my later songs. Cheers!

So uh Quarl... Quarl quarl quarl?

But really, really really smoove moves. Loving the slow, progressive melodies with the quick one-shots and ping-pongy synths. Very experimental, and suits my tastebuds for sure. Ambiance fits in quite well, though would like some more mid-range thrown in there to fill it out some more. Just a little somethin' somethin' in the background to give the nice, mid-low rumble.

Regardless, well done, sir.

Quarl responds:

lol, a friend used to tell me that about this song actually. "It's missing something that just goes....AR$ERHRGRGRHGRHR."

I never really understood what he meant but I get it :p
